“It’s Kind of a Funny Story”

It’s Kind of a Funny Story is a tragic but touching story. It is a genuine view of what goes on in the troubled mind of a teenager.

Craig (Keir Gilchrist) is a 16 year old teen who’s been clinically depressed for over  a year. Randomly, one morning he decides to check himself into a mental hospital after disputing whether or not to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge.

He checks into the adult ward for 5 days minimum. Bobby (Zach Galifianakis), another patient, becomes good friends with Craig and they learn how to deal with some of life’s hard lessons together.

Craig unexpectedly meets a girl, Noelle (Emma Roberts) who seems to share some of his strange spirit. Finding love in the most unusual place sends Craig on a 5 day journey of learning what it really means to live life.

Gilchrist  gives an amazing performance in portraying this heart ached but brilliant teenager. He adds a certain oddity to this film which emphasizes its uniqueness. When working together on screen, Gilchrist and Galifianakis form this weird chemistry that gives the movie a foreign humor to it.

The phenomenal art that comes along with this story gives you a fascination of all that the mind can hold and makes the audience appreciate the bizarreness that may arise. This movie definitely holds a positive outlook on life for those who have a blind eye to beauty.
