MacArthur’s mindset proved earnest for a 17-10 victory against New Braunfels on Friday, November 12th despite the heavy cloud cover and rain. In the first quarter Jace Amaro caught a 9 yard TD pass and the Unicorns answered with kicker Robert Aguilar’s 28 yard field goal. MacArthur’s Jose Ocampo kicked a 31 yard field goal as well and the score was 10-3 at the half. During the third quarter, Brahma David Eberwine caught a leaping 15 yard TD pass in the end zone setting the score to 17-3. Unicorn Kevin Monreal (16 carries, 79 rushing yards) scored a 3 yard touchdown run with only four minutes left in the game. The Brahmas kept their composure and gained crucial yardage in their last drive by clearing their territory with a 37 yard pass to Eberwine on 3rd down.
The Brahmas move on to a 10-1 record and sets the stage for a 12:00 P.M. game versus O’Connor High school at the Alamodome. The O’Connor Panthers (5-6) beat Corpus Christi Carroll 35-3 on Saturday.
Although O’Connor has made it this far, MacArthur seems confident enough for their matchup.
“I am looking forward to the 72 degree weather which should allow our offense to do all it wants,” said junior linebacker Sam Tillotson.
The Mac defense seems more than prepared for what the Panthers have to bring.
“[I am anticipating] our best game of the year, while O’Connor will try to keep up with us they surely can’t.”
