Hey y’all. The 62nd annual stock-show and rodeo is in its final week here in San Antonio, and with many musical performers such as Styx, Blake Shelton, and The Eli Young band, this last week promises to be nothing short of amazing as far as entertainment goes, but for those who have a different idea of entertainment, the rodeo also showcases some of the best known rodeo athletes in the world.
From bull riding to steer wrestling, the rodeos vast range of sports feature many athletes, such as professional steer wrestler K.C. Jones from Decatur, Texas, PBR (Professional Bull Riding) rider Chris Roundy from Panguitch, Utah, and Bareback rider Tom McFarland from Wickenburg, Ariz., evidently this event is definitely not lacking talent, and the commendations and awards speak for themselves.
The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo has won the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) large indoor rodeo of the year award six times consecutively since 2005. As if these titles alone weren’t enough to get your foot in the door, it has also won the prestigious PRCA Remuda Award for 2010. Remuda is a term with spanish roots for “a herd of horses“. This award is given to the city that consistently shows elite live-stock over time.
Yes, those are some great achievements, and some might wonder where all the money brought in by these titles goes to. The rodeo has generously offered to donate 8.5 million dollars to education when the tour is done and your attendance helps this cause.
