Winning their last 3 games by an average of nearly 30 points, the varsity team rode the momentum into a convincing 35-28 victory over Churchill Friday night at Heroes stadium.
Churchill came into the game with an extra week of rest and preparation as they had their bye last week. They seemed to be fresh out of the gates as they countered the team’s first touchdown with one of their own. However, the Brahmas would proceed to overpower them with 21 unanswered points and an eventual 35-14 lead with less than 4 minutes left in the game. The outcome was never in doubt, although one recovered onsides kick by Churchill and a Mac fumble, that was eventually ruled down, added an uncertainty that made the win all the more satisfying.
Arguably the best quarterback and running back in the district both put on a show while avoiding turnovers. Quarterback Tyler Vitt completed 65% of his passes and threw for one touchdown while also picking up 33 yards on the ground. Running back Daijon Williams once again rushed 32 times, this time for 149 yards.
Williams has been unbelievable. In the two district games he has carried the ball 64 times for 373 yards. His O-Line opens the gaps and he explodes through them with bad intentions, which is reflected in his almost 8 yards per carry.
Equally as spectacular, Vitt has completed 78 passes in 111 attempts without any interceptions.
“I’m just doing my thing,” Vitt said. “I’ve got everybody backing me up, everybody’s on my side, I’m just playing ball.”
The QB-RB duo of Vitt and Williams feed off of each other throughout the game and one will often set up a big play for the other.
“It’s easy to just give it to him and get yards every single play, he separates the defense for me to pick them apart.” Vitt said
With the bye next week, the team will try to recharge and prepare for the grueling 4 games left in the regular season.
