In light of the new “Ninjago: Dragons Rising” season coming out soon, I revisited my days of being a wee ol’ lad and watching “Ninjago” for the first time. The series bases its protagonist being teenage Ninjas that have been taught the art of Spinjitzu, a martial art that has the first lesson from the First Spinjitzu Master. To help you get a sense of the series and what it entails, here is the compiled list of the seven best Ninjago seasons.
For reference, here are the characters featured in the show :
Kai: Elemental Master of Fire
Jay: Elemental Master of Lightning
Cole: Elemental Master of Earth
Zane: Elemental Master of Ice (robot)
Nya: Elemental Master of Water – formerly a samurai. Kai’s younger sister.
Sensei Wu: The Master of the Ninja, youngest son of the First Spinjitzu Master
Garmadon: The oldest son of the First Spinjitzu Master, infected by pure evil.
Lloyd: The Green Ninja – son of Garmadon – oldest son of the First Spinjitzu Master. It has been revealed in the new season of Lego Ninjago: Dragons Rising, he is the Elemental Master of Life
7) Season 4: “Tournament of Elements”
The Tournament of Elements takes place with the Ninja having to fight in a tournament against other previously unknown elemental masters in order to rescue Zane after the events of season three. The Ninja must defeat Master Chen, the main antagonist of the season, to prevent him from taking all of the elemental powers of the contestants.

6) Season 9: “Hunted”
Kai, Cole, Zane and young sensei Wu must endure through the vile lands of the Realm of Oni & Dragons, while Lloyd and Nya are stuck in the present fighting in the barren streets of Ninjago being ruled by Garmadon, the season’s main co-antagonist. Kai, Cole, Zane and young Wu must find a way back to the realm of Ninjago, while Lloyd and Nya defeat the tyrannic rule of Lord Garmadon.

5) Season 7: “Hands of Time”
The Ninjas are faced by the Elemental Masters of Time, the Time Twins – Crux and Acronix – whose powers were absorbed into four separate time blades. The Ninja must stop Crux and Acronix from obtaining their powers back and ruling everything with the power of time, all while Kai and Nya learn about the secret behind their parents’ disappearance.

4) Season 13: “Master of the Mountain”
A beautifully crafted season revolving around Cole and his deceased mother. Sensei Wu and the Ninja embark to the kingdom of Shintaro, a prestigious land holding secret caves exploiting Geckles and Muncs, two mythical creatures that rival each other. The Ninja must stop the Skull Sorcerer from ruling over the two creatures, all while Cole discovers the power within from the source of his mom’s elemental power.

3) Season 6: “Skybound”
The Ninja must stop Nadakhan-the main antagonist of the season, a Djinn that has the power to grant three wishes each to anybody-with the price of a consequence-with the goal of rebuilding his fallen realm of Djinnjago by destroying Ninjago. Nadakhan fools the Ninja into “wishing it all away” in order to trap them in his Djinn blade; Jay remains the last one of the Ninja’s that has decided that he shouldn’t use his last wish, ultimately using it to save everyone.

2) Season 3: “Rebooted”
The Ninja must stop the Overlord, the series’ overarching antagonist, whose goal is to take all of Lloyd’s golden power, all while his dad vows to never use any weapon as a result of having been cured from the evil stuck inside of him. Zane and the Ninja’s fight against evil Nindroids, while Zane makes the ultimate sacrifice to save everyone from the Overlord.

Honorable Mention: “Day of the Departed”, a mini movie taking place before the Hands of Time
Cole goes to the temple of Airjitzu, the place where he was turned into a ghost, and must stop Sensei Yang from having Cole take his place as Master of the temple and releasing his spirit. The Ninja fight against previous enemies revived by the spirit of Sensei Yang, while Cole discovers a new ability and gets his physical form back from leaving the temple and convincing Yang to stay.

1) Season 5: “Possession”
The Ninja must fight against Morro, a deceased former student of Sensei Wu, the Master of Wind, who is releasing the departed realm to take over the realm of Ninjago, all while possessing Lloyd. Nya develops her elemental power of water, ghosts’ weaknesses; the season ending with Morro letting himself fall with the realm and helping the Ninjas, delivering his iconic line to Sensei Wu: “You can only save those who want to be saved… goodbye, Sensei.”
