At the Region 20 T.A.F.E. conference, students gathered to have fun learning more about the teaching profession.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Texas Association of Future Educators (T.A.F.E.), held their Region 20 conference at the UTSA main campus. President of the MacArthur T.A.F.E. Chapter, Ruby Haswell, described the purpose of the conference was for students to get to know each other.
“Four schools came up with different activities for us to do,” Haswell said. “We played games like volleyball and did arts and crafts.”
Students were randomly split into four groups allowing them to meet other people during the activities. The activities were called Breakout Sessions and freshmen Elizabeth Kobell said this was her favorite part of the conference.
“I really enjoyed meeting new people and making the flags,” Kobell said.
After eating lunch at the Roadrunner cafe, students returned to listen to guest speakers. Asst. Principal Ben Peterson was one of the speakers at the conference. Mr Peterson is a former T.A.F.E. member and spoke to the students about the “Art and Science” of teaching.

“I hope students were inspired by the guest speakers,” Haswell said.
Winners from the Region competition on Nov 12. were also announced at the conference. Any students interested in joining T.A.F.E. should see Mrs. Jarvis in B228.
