Bracelets can travel; from the fingers of Nicaraguan youths thousands of miles to the United States. They can aid the poverty-stricken by providing food, water, and needed money to the families who participate. Because of this, Student Council has decided to continue the fundraiser they picked up from last year, the Pulsera Project.
“These kids from Nicaragua make the bracelets and then we sell them,” Pride and Patriotism co-Officer Esmeralda Loza, 11, said. “Once we finish selling all of them, all that money goes back to them so they can have things like food, shelter, and water.”
The Pulsera Project sends the hand-made bracelets to schools in the United States who have chosen to participate. After each school has the fundraiser, they send the profits back to Nicaragua, where the families who participated get money back depending on the quantity of bracelets and how many were sold at the schools.
“They shipped (the bracelets) to us,” Student Council member Vanessa Ramirez, 11, said, “It’s really cool because it went to Ohio, and Missouri, and different places to be sold, even a university.”
Each bracelet is $5 and includes a tag that carries he name of the individual who made it and a picture of them. They will be sold at all three lunches until Thursday, May 29.
