Into the Woods is a modern twist that follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Hattlestone), and Rapunzel (Mackenzie Hauzl) all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish is to begin a family but have been cursed by a witch (Maryl Streep) that they want lifted.
“The movie was interesting and wasn’t like your average fairy tale,” senior Sydney Anderson said.
Into the Woods presence its self in a different angle and shows the reality of the different tales through out the movie. It’s message is that not everyone gets the happily ever after they want.
“There was a lot going on in the [movie] that it kept you wondering whats going to happen next,” Anderson added.
With the words “Once Upon a Time,” the Narrator introduces four characters who each have a wish. Cinderella, the daughter of a wealthy man who was left with her wicked stepmother and stepsisters and became their maid, wishes to attend the King’s festival. Jack, a simple poor boy, wishes that his cow Milky White would give milk and a baker and his Wife wish they could have a child.
While Little Red Ridinghood wishes for bread from the Baker to take to her grandmother’s house, which they give. Jack’s weary mother, who wishes for gold, nags him into selling the cow, and Cinderella’s stepmother and stepsisters Florinda and Lucinda tease her about wanting to attend the King’s festival.
“[It] was not as colorful like other fairy tales, it was much more darker and the stories are much more different,” junior Jazmin Ashton said.
The movie starts off in a positive way showing each characters happy and joyful but then takes a turn for the worst when everything starts to go wrong and a unfortunate events start to happen. Also, characters cross paths with one another even though they are from different stories, everything is some how tied together.
Overall the movie gave you a different perspective of the well known fairy tales that we know and love, and kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next. Even though they didn’t get the happily ever after they wanted. Everyone ended up happy at the end.
