This season, new head varsity volleyball coach Lilly Rost focused on building a team and made it one to remember.
“Being new to the head coach position and the athletes acclimating to my coaching style has been a great experience,” coach Rost said.
For the coach, it was a big experience to have just assumed the position of head coach, and for the players, it was a mission to get used to the coach’s teaching style. Thus began the volleyball preseason, as they recognized what type of team they were season and began preparing right away.
“We also had a few injuries throughout the season that caused many new lineups,” Rost said. “Even with these adversities, as a team, we did not allow ourselves to have excuses to reach our goals. ”
Even if a player was injured, they always made sure to have someone ready to take her place, and they worked hard to achieve their goals. This coaching style and the player’s hard work led the first and second rounds of the Regional tournament and the Area rounds of the State playoffs.
“Round 1 of district, we ended 6-3 and regrouped and came back stronger in the second round of district with an 8-1 record; we were able to make the State playoffs and advanced to the Area Round,” Rost said. “The very last game of the season was a great indicator that as a team, we reached a few of our goals. We did not surrender and continued to adapt and execute.”
