With the school closure extending through May 4, all spring sports and activities have been canceled.
“When I first heard of [the season] getting canceled, I was really upset because sports is probably the most exciting thing I have to look forward to at and outside of the school day,” junior tennis player Jesse Briseno said. “We will lose the weekends of playing the sport we love and being surrounded by our closest friends and coaches.”
The cancellation has been hard on the seniors as they don’t get another chance to represent their school and team.
“This was my last year ever wearing the Brahma on my jersey,” senior softball player Beth Montes said. “It breaks my heart to think that the last game I played was the last time I would ever wear that uniform.”
While the cancellation of spring sports has been disappointing, some of the athletes are trying to find the silver lining.
“We’ve been sad about this unfortunate event, but we’re looking at it as extra time to prepare,” Montes said. “We are taking time to get extra reps and the workout coach has given us.”
Even with the disappointment of everyone who lost their season, it’s important to remember to take the extra time to take care of oneself during these odd times.
“I personally have been taking the free time to exercise and focus on my school work,” Briseno said. “Once those are finished I can get back into my normal groove and improve even more to get ready for next year.”
