After spending the whole year practicing and competing, four MacArthur students finally got their chance to compete in regional UIL. Students started walking into Churchill High School as early as 8 a.m. to prepare for their events.
“I was more nervous this time,” senior Lorena Lalaj said. “However, I managed to control myself.”
Lalaj is the only student that was able to get on the alternate list for the state competition. This means that if for some reason those who placed above her can’t compete she will be representing our school.
“I’m very happy with my placement,” Lalaj said. “I’m also really thankful to my teacher Ms. Cortez who helped us during this competition.”
Unfortunately as a senior, the regional competition was Lalaj’s last event as a MacArthur student.
“I am sad that this journey has ended here,” Lalaj said. “But I also want to say that participating in UIL competitions, especially in Accounting or even just taking an Accounting class is truly a great experience. You will learn a lot of things that’ll help you when you become financially stable so why not give it a try?”
