In celebration of Veterans Day, JROTC held a memorial ceremony on campus to recognize and honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Students, staff and community members attended to show appreciation for the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting the nation.
Cadets stood in uniform formation as the American flag was presented. The ceremony, led entirely by the JROTC program, reflected the discipline, organization, and respect that cadets strive to uphold throughout the year. Veterans Day, observed annually on Nov. 11, serves as a national reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of service members from every branch of the military.
“Veterans Day is a time to remember the people who served and sacrificed for our country,” Cadet Alliyah Johnson said. “It’s about showing respect and being thankful for everything they’ve done to keep us free.”
Cadets worked hard to make sure their presentation reflected precision and honor.
“We didn’t have to plan a lot, but we did practice our formations to make sure everything looked sharp,” Johnson said. “It was important for us to present ourselves in a disciplined way and show respect through our actions.”
The JROTC team spent time rehearsing their movements, ensuring their spacing, posture, and timing were consistent. Their goal was to maintain a professional presence and create a respectful atmosphere throughout the ceremony.
“Just being there and knowing that what we were doing was to honor veterans made it special,” Johnson said. “It reminded me why JROTC is important—it teaches us to respect those who serve.”
The cadets also hoped the audience left the event with a lasting message.
“I hope people took a moment to really think about what veterans have done for us,” Johnson said. “It’s easy to take our freedoms for granted, but today is about remembering the people who earned them.”
Participation in JROTC gives students a greater understanding of leadership, service, and teamwork—values closely tied to the spirit of Veterans Day.
“JROTC helps us understand the responsibility that comes with serving,” Johnson said. “It teaches us to appreciate the dedication veterans show every day.”
The ceremony concluded with quiet reflection as students and staff recognized the courage and commitment of those who have served. Through their participation, the JROTC cadets demonstrated leadership, respect, and gratitude—values that mirror the very qualities honored on Veterans Day.
“It feels good to be part of something that matters,” Johnson said. “Even small acts of respect, like standing in formation or participating in a ceremony, can make a difference. It shows that we care.”
