Destroy All! Humans, a local San Antonio band, has just released their newest album, The Grotesque & Arabesque. It gives a sense of Crabcore and Scenecore within the first track.
Track 1: Hard To Stay Sucka Free In A Land Full Of Lollipops. I’m met with a nice uplifting hip-hop sort of beat, a nice intro track that also serves as a transition into the second song, “Ainters Gonna Ain’t.”
Track 2: Ainters Gonna Ain’t. It’s a short but amazing track that hits you with an unexpected introduction involving amazing guitar riffs, drums, and screams. My favorite part of this song has to be when the lead vocalist, Sky takes the last 20 seconds of the song to address the “Ainters” listing.
Track 3: Nobody Prays For The Heartless. Nearly 4 minutes of loud, amazing screams and guitar riffs. A fast-paced track with a beautiful bridge/solo starting at 2:00, going on until 2:4,5 where it cuts back into fast riffs and chugs for the rest of the song.
Track 4: It Was Always You. A song about heartbreak using lyrics that paint a clear picture of how he feels. The song starts off with this loud chord followed by lyrics, “Your name is stuck to my tongue/ Oh it’s a twisted curse/ The life that we once shared, will never return.”
As the song goes on, you realize that the song is clearly about hatred towards someone, or some girl. The girl, left unnamed, is painted as an evil person.
Track 5: Jane. Once again, this is a song about a girl, perhaps the one talked about in the song before. This girl is talked about as deceitful, wretched, and a liar who had no love for the artist. “She had so much love to give/ But never to me/ I promised her the world but now it’s taken from me.”
Track 6: The World That Never Was. Marking the halfway point of the album is an interlude track, presenting a dreamy acoustic track. As the track goes on the acoustic guitar fades into the background as a shredding guitar track fades in as well with some piano. This short track ends with a simple fade out.
Overall, I enjoy the albu,m and I believe it’s a step forward for this local band. A great album and band to get into for anyone who enjoys crabcore or scenecore. A good album by a great band. I give it a 7/10, because although I enjoy the album, I think in some places it gets a little generic and repetitive.
