Swinging into the top charts, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the most-watched trailer in movie history with over 1.1 billion views in the span of four days since its release on March 18th.
According to Variety, the previous record holder of most viewed trailer within 24 hours was Deadpool and Wolverine, with about 365 million views. With an accumulation of 18.6 million views in the span of 24 hours after its release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day surpassed this title and became the biggest trailer launch ever for any movie or video game.
Set four years after the events in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has committed to protecting New York as a full-time Spider-Man. He’s now an adult living on his own—the memory of his existence erased from his loved one’s lives in order to protect them. His luck strikes again, however, as a pattern of crimes surges and heavily challenges his mental, physical, and emotional state. With the pressure of defeating this new threat, Peter must face a series of obstacles in order to not only save his city, but to also save himself.
In the beginning of the trailer, Spider-Man is handed a key to the city by the mayor of New York City. This mayor, however, is not Wilson Fisk (also commonly known as Kingpin) from Marvel’s series Daredevil: Born Again. Though not confirmed, many speculate that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will take place after the events in season two of Daredevil: Born Again, due to the replacement of Kingpin as Mayor by another.
Dodging bullets and apparently a van, Spider-Man is shown to be run over by none other than Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher (Jon Bernthal). This first appearance with him tells the audience that both vigilantes have already met prior to this movie, though it’s not yet stated as to when they started interacting. The Punisher appears to be chasing a tank, one that Spider-Man also has eyes on, in his fortified black van with many artillery pieces included. Later in another scene, Spider-Man is shown to rip the top of the same tank’s opening off to reveal an older lady who appears to be controlled by someone unknown, rumored to be played by actress Sadie Sink.
By the middle of the trailer, Peter Parker is hanging out of his apartment in a type of “web cocoon” and barely catches himself from falling upside down. His webs, however, don’t come from his well-known web shooters, but from his own wrists. Fans have pointed out this similarity towards Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, as he is known to have organic webbing rather than creating his own. Another suspicion is that this Spider-Man is undergoing a mutation throughout his body, as he is seen conversing with Bruce Banner, also commonly known as the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Fans have accumulated many theories as to what exactly this mutation will lead to, and more specifically, what comic this storyline could connect to.
The film is set to release on July 31 of this summer and stars actors such as Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. Spider-Man: Brand New Day not only marks a new chapter for Peter Parker, but it also highlights a historic turning point for cinema and potential Spider-Man films to come in the future.

Spider-Man’s pretty cool. I love the part where you put the “m” in Spider-Man as lowercase in the title of your post
