The volleyball team remained undefeated in district on Friday, Sept. 16 in an away game against Burbank. Once again all three teams won in dominating fashion, with only varsity losing one set in a best-of-five.
“It has been a crazy ride,” varsity player Kaylen Lembcke said. “I’m really excited that we were able to pull it out and I’m really excited for the season.”
So far the team has kept composed throughout the season, sweeping the sets in every district game before this one. The team has also shown its depth, having multiple players contribute meaningful minutes and highlight plays.
“Our team has been just doing really good,” Lembcke said. “Taylor Alston has been really killing it this season, so has Iyonna Sherwood, she’s been blocking really well, and Mandy Flores has [had] some really good sets.”
The next home game for the team might be its biggest challenge yet, facing Alamo Heights in a tough game at the MacArthur gym this Wednesday. The two schools are currently tied for first place in district, with both teams having a dominant 6-0 district record.
“[Our mindset is] to just push through and tackle every challenge,” Lembcke said.
