As the field lights glared and the stiff cold weather settled in, the girls soccer team kicked off their 2012 season with a friendly scrimmage against Clemson High School last Tuesday, Jan. 3 at Blossom Athletic Center.
Both junior varsity and varsity participated in order to brace themselves for the upcoming season. With the absence of a scoreboard, it felt as if the girls were out there to show the skills they developed in the off season and receive a sense of what lay ahead of them.
Junior Catherine Sharp felt the game was very necessary for the team’s success.
“We play as if it’s a real game,” Sharp said. “It’s our preseason, we’re trying to get used to how we are going to play this season.”
The first half of the match consisted of two goals scored by the Lady Brahmas. The rest proved to be uneventful, only allowing one goal scored by Clemson that was retracted due to an offside penalty.
Although the team consists of many underclassmen, it is no excuse to settle for anything less than the outcome of last season’s playoffs. The girls next game will be tomorrow, Jan 7 at Steele High School.
