By singing carols for the elderly in nursing homes, the Spanish, Japanese, and French Club spread holiday cheer last Wednesday, Nov. 25.
The language clubs went to Forest Oak Landing at 4:50 p.m. and Brookdale Senior Living at 6:00 p.m., spending 30-40 minutes at each location. The 23 student carolers had to get a ride there and back. The clubs sang popular Christmas songs such as Jingle Bells and Silent Night in a mix of Spanish and Japanese.Â
¨We did this because it´s the holidays and we wanted to spread joy to our community,¨ said Japanese Club president Marissa Dillon.
The opportunity to spread holiday spirit was not missed by those participating in the caroling. The language clubs participate and diversify the experience for people of all backgrounds and enhance enjoyment and appreciation from the home residents.Â
¨A lot of them were very thankful and they were really excited we were there,¨ Dillon said. ¨We got a lot of thank yous and they were very grateful we came for them.¨
The event was memorable and is hoped to be an annual event for the elderly community and the language clubs.Â
¨We hope that it’s going to be a tradition for us,¨ Dillon said. ¨We´re hoping that the kids after us will continue the Japanese club and they will continue going.¨
