After years of working to put the movie in several theaters, Mark Fischbach, commonly known as Markiplier, successfully released “Iron Lung” in over 4,161 theaters internationally.
Named after the indie horror game with the same name, created by David Szymanski, “Iron Lung” is a movie set three centuries into the future, where the death of several stars has already happened, an event called “The Quiet Rapture”, leaving few civilizations surviving.
The protagonist, Simon, is a convict placed inside a submarine the size of two vans, inside a moon with an ocean of blood, set out to take images of x’d out spots on a coordinate map of the ocean. Simon has to take images with a button and screen on the opposite side of the sub to be able to see what’s in front of him, as well as simple and tedious controls to change directions. Simon realizes he’s being stalked by a sea creature prowling near.

The cinematography of this movie exemplifies what an indie film set can do. Several shots in the movie have surreal imagery that show how great the filming production was to be able to pull off an amazing job to create this visual masterpiece. An amazing way to note the cinematic greatness is the way that they make the submarine feel like an open office space with dingy lighting. The set pieces make it feel neither claustrophobic nor confined to a small area despite its small size.
The quality of the audio design of this movie had amazing sound production, and realism of the sound that comes with being inside the submarine and other parts of the movie. An amazing example is the way that you can hear the sub swish through the blood ocean, and when its course is changed, as well as the thud of the impacts on it.
With the amazing cinematography and audio design that synergize perfectly, and the intriguing story plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, thirsting for more, I give this movie a 4 out of 5 moons.
